KARACHI:The Global Innovation Index (GII) places Pakistan in 99th place out of 132 economies in 2021. One of the pillars is human capital and research, and Pakistan’s rank is 117. Innovation can lead to sustainable economic growth, which can help countries achieve higher levels of performance and well-being for their citizens. While evidence shows that there is a strong relationship between a country’s economic development and innovation, India and Vietnam, among others, have shown that this relationship is not necessarily true. India’s innovation performance is above the average of the high middle income group.
