Pakistan has been elected to a major policy-making organ of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) during the 17th Session of the General Conference concluded in Vienna on Friday. Ayesha Riyaz, Pakistan’s Ambassador in Vienna, has also been elected as the Vice-President of the General Conference. Earlier, in a general conference held in Paris on November 30, Pakistan was also elected into various bodies of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). For developing nations like Pakistan, inclusive and sustainable industrialisation plays a pivotal role not only in economic but also in social development, through job creation that reduces poverty and helps decrease inequalities.
