ISLAMABAD—Former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari was arrested on longstanding money-laundering charges in a move opponents of the government said was part of a clampdown on them directed by the government and military. Mr. Zardari, co-leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, heads one of the two main opposition parties in parliament. The leader of the other major opposition party, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been in prison since his conviction in a corruption case last year.
