Police along with WorkSafe have launched investigations after the crash last month in the Kakanui Range, east of Ranfurly, where two people died at the scene. The pair killed have today been named as 50-year-old Gary David Murphy and 55-year-old Trevor Floyd Smith both of the United Kingdom. Last week the tour operator the people were with when the crash happened was revealed to be high-end Queenstown adventure company, Prestige Adventure. Police continue to say the crash involved a quad bike, but the firm said the vehicle involved was a 4WD buggy or side-by-side.
