Spiers has won several pageants in her past including Miss Whangamata, Miss Waihi Beach and is the current Miss Supermodel New Zealand. Principal of Whangamata Real Estate Murray Cleland said the Miss Whangamata event was part of the town's history and it was nice to preserve it. The runners up to the Miss Whangamata Competition were Emma Seiler and Monique Shirley.
