The replacement of the large number of conventional street lights with LED lights is expected to yield monetary savings to the tune of ₹77 crore to the villages every year and generate employment for local people, according to an official release. He ordered that the installation of LED lights (by EESL) should be completed in nine months in the initial phase. This programme is going to be another milestone in the energy sector after the installation of more than six lakh LED street lights in 110 municipalities. Zero upfront investmentWith zero upfront investment by the Government of A.P., the PR LED street lighting is being implemented in a unique economic model. A total of 30 lakh LED street lights are targeted to be installed in Guntur, Nellore, Kurnool, Kadapa, Chittoor, Anantapur and Prakasam districts by the EESL and AP-SEEDCO in the first phase and five lakh by NREDCAP in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East and West Godavari districts.
