Pacquiao rallies senators to support reimposition of the death penaltyFar from his laid back image at the House of Representatives, a combative Senator Manny Pacquiao yesterday pushed for the reimposition of the death penalty and reiterated the necessity of imposing it as a capital punishment for drug trafficking. The Bible-believing Christian and boxing champ even interpellated with at least six senators—most of whom were opposed to the death penalty. Pacquiao said he backs the Duterte government’s anti-drugs campaign and likewise, agree that convicted drug traffickers should be meted the death penalty. “That’s why we have nothing to fear about the death penalty, because this is only for people who commit nefarious crimes,” the senator said. Not only would the death penalty serve as a form of retribution against lives destroyed by illegal drugs, it would also serve as deterrent for individuals thinking of committing heinous crimes.
