Pacific needs hard hats, not silly shirtsJASON OXENHAM/POOL It's time for some hard truths about the Pacific. OPINION: This week we celebrated another momentous Pacific Islands Forum, notable mostly for our RNZAF 757 having to make a special flight for Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to attend for a day. So that was the 49th Pacific Islands Forum and before the 50th it might be time for a rethink of how they are run and what they should achieve. For instance, if climate change is the biggest threat to the Pacific, maybe the leaders should all get to Australia or New Zealand on regular flights and share transport. Given 50 years of Pacific Islands Fora have not achieved a better life for the ill-served people of the Pacific, maybe it's time to forget the silly shirts and put on some hard hats.
