more-inThe Public Works Department is into the process of clearing obstructions along the Kalingarayan baby canal. The blocks had sprung up in the form of garbage dumps that had been accumulating for months. Residents of localities in and around Vairaapalayam and surroundings have been dumping garbage indiscriminately on the embankment of the canal. The mounting garbage subsequently slides down into the canal and chokes flow of sewage water it carries. The PWD, sources said, was clearing the canal following complaints of mosquito menace arising from residents of the localities.
