PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik’s victory is not about feminism

For a country of a billion starved for a medal at Rio, Sakshi Malik’s bronze and PV Sindhu’s silver podium finish have galvanized us more than Vijay Goel’s constant faux paus. The state of those facilities is another story but for now they don’t ask for special treatment and they don’t get any. For them and their male counterparts they are all wrestlers or boxers, any male-female division is solely in our eyes. This need for feminism is as misplaced as the Indian officials at Rio. At the end of the day, as Gopichand or as Dipa’s coach Bisbeshwar Nandi proved, we all need each other.
