The local bourse snapped its losing streak to open the trading week only marginally up as investors remained cautious. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) climbed 0.39 percent or 22.73 points to 5,861.39, while wider All Shares gained 0.29 percent or 10.35 points to close at 3,530.98 on Monday. AAA Equities Head of Research Christopher Mangun said the main index finished slightly higher on very low trading volumes, as it only traded P3.49 billion. He attributed the slow performance to investors still waiting for more signs of economic recovery in the country. Foreign funds also continued to exit as the local market recorded P1.81-billion net foreign selling on Monday.
