NewsTwelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the assault on wildlife officers attached to the Minneriya Wildlife Office, police said. A member of the Hingurakgoda Pradeshiya Sabha is among those arrested over the incident, police added. A mob allegedly assaulted a group of wildlife officers at Minneriya National Park on Sunday (26) after they arrested a suspect who was allegedly engaged in illegal fishing inside the park. Several wildlife officers were injured in the incident. The attack prompted officers attached to the Polonnaruwa Wildlife Zone to launch a work to rule campaign demanding police take action to arrest those involved in assaulting wildlife officers.
