PPP gains strength in Punjab amid political heat

Share:ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party has started gaining strength in the politically influential Punjab province amid political heat and opposition’s demand for early elections. In 2018, the electables started favouring the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, leading to its victory in the general elections. With more than 140 general seats on offer in Punjab, wining two dozen seats is not an unrealistic target despite the PPP’s poor show in the last two general elections. PPP Central Punjab President Raja Pervez Ashraf told The Nation that there were more people in the queue to join hands with the PPP ahead of general elections, originally due in late 2023. Some former rebels like Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat have already joined the PPP to strengthen the party’s position in Punjab.
