PPL Has Enough Power to Handle Electric Vehicles in Valley

PPL Says They Can Handle Many More Electric VehiclesSUNBURY – If you’re thinking about purchasing an electric vehicle, They Valley’s main utility says ‘they’re ready.’Tracie Witter, PPL Utilities Regional Affairs Director said on WKOK’s On The Mark recently, “We have a very robust transmission and distribution system that will allow the support and growth of electric vehicle use. All of the updates we’ve made to our infrastructure and to the technology, we are ready and prepared in terms of capacity and reliability.”With inflation not slowing down anytime soon, Witter says there are plenty of savings, “The comparison is if it’s the size of a Honda Civic or a Chevy Volt it will be the equivalent of about $1.25 a gallon to charge the vehicle and they’re saying the average cost is 14 cents per kilowatt hour…well ours is going to be, effective June 1, 12 cents so it’s still below the average cost.”However, she says there is discussion of a ‘time of use rate,’ and customers who use electric vehicles may soon be encouraged to charge their vehicles at night. When it comes to your usual electric bill, some rates could be increasing significantly thanks to the latest energy cost increases. Witter says bills could increase as much as $32 monthly for an average user, “What’s changed, and it changes every six months, is we go to auction for energy prices and that is the component…we cannot control that…that is determined by market conditions, such as inflation, and specifically the rising cost of natural gas.”Once again, PPL is encouraging customers to save electric as much as possible, and there are tips to help you at www.savewithppl.com.
