PNP to start using body cameras in 2020 – The Manila Times

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday its operatives would use body cameras in 2020 to make its operations transparent. These cameras will ensure that PNP personnel will adhere to rules of engagement and would not violate human rights, whether they are conducting anti-drug operations or manning checkpoints. “The PNP will not only procure body cameras, but a sophisticated, reliable and secure system, which will allow complete system management, real-time, live streaming, data storage, and backup and overall connectivity and monitoring,” Gamboa said. Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo, co-chairman of the Interagency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, said body cameras were “indispensable” in anti-illegal drug operations. The demand for the use of body cameras was floated in 2017 during the tenure as PNP chief of now senator Ronald dela Rosa.
