MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) vowed to hold accountable a mayor in Metro Manila who allegedly withdrew support from the local police after he was not informed about the designation of a new city police chief. Sought for comment, Eleazar identified the local chief executive as Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro, who is running for reelection in the midterm elections. “He is the one who withdrew support to the local police,” Eleazar said in a phone interview. Another police official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the local chief executive removed the gasoline allowance and financial assistance to the city’s police force. I strongly suggest the chief PNP should verify first his information before saying anything to the media,” he said.
