In an indication that the government was weighing extreme diplomatic actions against Pakistan in the wake of the terror attack on an Army camp in Uri, Kashmir last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to chair a meeting on the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) on Monday. The IWT, brokered by the World Bank, was signed between the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and his Pakistani counterpart General Ayub Khan. Studying falloutThe meeting that the Prime Minister will chair would have representatives from the Water Resources and External Affairs Ministries. “It is only a meeting to assess the Indus Waters Treaty. The Prime Minister will discuss the pros and cons of turning off the tap to Pakistan,” said a top government official.
