Prime Minister Imran Khan, while inaugurating the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Unit-2, said that reversing environmental fallout is important to protect future generations, and the power plant, which was set up in collaboration with China, would help provide clean and cost-effective electricity. While climate change poses a global threat, Pakistan is considered among the countries most vulnerable to its effects. He also appreciated Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for its efforts in the nuclear energy sector. The possibility of accidents – some of the most renowned accidents led to cities around them turning into ghost towns – also worries those concerned about the shift to nuclear energy. Despite the issues, nuclear energy appears to be the country’s best chance at meeting energy requirements while preserving the environment.
