He drove a rented car from the airport to Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan in That Phanom district, about 50 kilometres from Muang district. The surprise visit to Nakhon Phanom and the petrol station came a day after the prime minister apologised for the government's mismanagement of the supply of petrol.and diesel to pumps nationwide as the Mideast war disrupts supply. During the previously limited fuel price rises, there were fuel shortages at petrol stations nationwide but after the initial price surge, shortages disappeared.
