Out of this, Rs 15.44 lakh crores was in high denomination notes, which were phased out. Rs 2.33 lakh crores was in small denomination notes with a value of Rs 100 or less. The demonetisation advantages report of the Modi government says that with Rs 14.2 lakh crores of currency the economy is able to meet all its transactional requirements. This means that the economy now has roughly Rs 5 lakh crores of cash lesser than the amount it would have had if demonetisation had not happened. In the year gone by there were 240 crore debit card transactions with a total value of Rs 3.3 lakh crore.
