NEW DELHI: India has offered to become a source of food supply to Saudi Arabia as Prime Minister Narendra Modi courted greater Saudi investment, especially in infrastructure. In his meeting with the Deputy Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman , on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in China's Hangzhou , PM Modi called for strengthened partnership with Saudi Arabia in sectors such as the maritime economy, infrastructure, and low-cost housing.According to government sources, PM Modi invited Saudi investment in modernization of railway stations even as India and Saudi Arabia discussed further cooperation in the energy sector. In recent months, India has had to rescue thousands of Indian workers stranded in Saudi Arabia as they were abandoned, without pay by their employers, until the King intervened personally to make sure they were not wronged. On a larger scale, India and Saudi Arabia are also seeking to recalibrate their relations -- from an energy supplier to a partnership in diverse fields like investment in infrastructure, defense, intelligence and counter-terrorism.
