PM Hasina assassination attempt: Court to deliver verdict Oct 29

A Dhaka court has set October 29 for delivering its verdict in two cases filed over the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina 28 years ago at her family residence in Dhanmondi. Judge Md Zahidul Kabir of Dhaka Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court set the date on Monday after the conclusion of hearing arguments in both the cases. According to the cases, seven or eight armed activists of Bangladesh Freedom Party, riding two three-wheelers, came to the residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of Sheikh Hasina, at Road 32 in Dhanmondi on August 11, 1989. Forcing into the residence, the miscreants hurled grenades and opened fire at the building, where Hasina, also the president of the Awami League, was staying at the time. Later, Jahirul filed two cases with Dhanmondi police station under the Explosives Substances Act and the Penal Code.
