more-inThe Madras High Court has impleaded the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department on a PIL seeking proper maintanence of a Tiruvalluvar Memorial located in Mylapore. The First Bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar passed the order on a PIL moved by advocate R. Srinivasa Rao and posted the plea to June 13 for further hearing. According to the petitioner, a memorial to Thiruvalluvar was renewed by Kanniyappa Nayakkar and Subramani Chettiyar in 1935 in Mylapore. But since then the memorial was not properly maintained by the government or the local authorities allowing it to ruin. Since the authorities have failed to respond, the advocate has approached the High Court.
