“The Department of Telecommunications has financial as well as performance bank guarantees from these operators which can be encashed for non-payment of any due. Subsequently action for cancellation of license is to be initiated as per the provisions of the license,” stated the petition .It all started when in October 2019, an SC verdict widened the definition of AGR to include non-core items. This meant 15 telcos had to pay additional licence fees, spectrum usage charges (SUC), interest and penalty dues of more than Rs 1.47 lakh crore by January 23. Licence fees and SUC are calculated on the basis of AGR.Since the Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel have moved apex court on review petitions but that was dismissed . Next step was when they filed for modification appeal against the deadline which is scheduled for hearing in coming week.
