“Trese,” the highly-popular and award winning Filipino graphic novel, will hit global streaming service Netflix starting 2021, alongside new anime titles. Created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, Trese tells the story of detective Alexandra Trese, who deals with supernatural crimes in Manila, fusing Philippine mythology and graphic storytelling. The comic book received the National Book Award for Best Graphic novel in 2010 and has been nominated multiple times for the same award. The Netflix anime, meanwhile, will be will have Filipino-American director Jay Oliva as executive producer. Proof of Netflix’s anime ambition is its partnerships with different anime studios such as Polygon Pictures, Production I.G., Bones, David Production, Anima, Sublimation, Studio MAPPA and Studio MIR, among others.
