PH external debt rises 3.6% to $77.7 billionThe Philippine external debt continues to increase in the second quarter to $77.7 billion or up 3.6 percent compared to the same period in 2015. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr. yesterday said “key external debt indicators remained at comfortble levels” as of end-June. On a quarterly basis, external debt only increased by 0.1 percent from end-March’s $77.6 billion. The GDP ratio to external debt is however higher year-on-year or from 25.7 percent because debt was higher as well. As of end-June, the public sector external debt was at $39.4 billion or 50.7 percent of total debt stock, higher than the $38.9 billion in the previous quarter.
