ONLINE gambling cannot be registered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), its top official said on Sunday. PEZA Director General Charito Plaza said the agency was not authorized to register information technology/business process outsourcing (IT/BPO) entities engaged in online gambling. Of the 14 investment promotion agencies (IPAs), PEZA is authorized to register lands and buildings as economic zones. There are 2 IPAs authorized to register online gambling — the Cagayan Valley Ecozone and the Aurora Economic Zone. Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez 3rd had said revenues from POGOs could boost the government’s funds in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
