PCN seals 537 pharmacies, patent medicine shops in Kano

THE Registrar, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Mr Elijah Mohammed, has said that 537 pharmacies and patent medicine shops in Kano were sealed by the PCN for offences which include operating without registration and selling ethical medicines without the supervision of a pharmacist. Speaking on Thursday while addressing a press conference at the council office in Kano, Mr Mohammed also said that other offences that made the council seal the premises include poor storage conditions and unauthorised sale of the substance, as well as poor documentation. While speaking on his behalf, the Director of Enforcement, PCN, Mr Steven Esumobi said a total number of 1,581 premises comprising 657 pharmacies and 924 patent shops were visited across the state. He added that many medicine shops and medicine dealers in Kano still operate without adequate storage facilities while others have illegal warehouses scattered around the state.
