The protest action organized by the Patriotic Entrepreneurs of Liberia (PATEL in the demand of the reduction of the high rate of exchange between the United States Dollars and the Liberian Dollars has gained ground in Monrovia and its environs as businesses have closed, while commuters’ bid to move about their normal businesses has been seized as a result of the protest action. Despite appeal made by the Liberian National Police for the PATEL to call off their protest action, today’s action has paralyzed all businesses in the city, as all focus was on the outcome of the planned meeting between the lawmakers and the membership of the PATEL. The marketers prior to today’s protest action said whenever they to try to purchase goods from foreign owned business, owners of these businesses always charged them to pay in United States Dollars, a situation they said is unbearable as the exchange rate continue to speed up at the determent of them. The Patriotic Entrepreneurs of Liberia (PATEL) said their action on today will symbolize to the lawmakers and the Liberian Government that they are being suppressed as a result of this situation.
