Owners of historic Southland retailer H&J Smith oppose CBD application

Owners of historic Southland retailer H&J Smith's have opposed HWCP Management Ltd's resource consent application for a bold inner-city development. Speaking at the resource consent hearing on Wednesday, H&J Smith's managing director Jason Smith said they "reluctantly" opposed the application for a couple of reasons. H&J Smith's and HWCP had been in discussions about a skybridge connection from the CBD development to H&J Smith's, however those discussions had since broken down. The initial plan was for a skybridge to enter from H&J Smith's into the Kelvin Hotel and through to the anchor tenant in the new block. It has also requested plans to included better connectivity to other parts of the CBD, including onto Kevin St and into H&J Smith's Ltd.
