Owaisi’s AIMIM barred from contesting Maharashtra civic polls

In a big setback to Asaduddin Owaisi, the Maharashtra election commission on Wednesday barred his AIMIM and other 190 local political parties from contesting the state civic polls for failing to submit its income tax and audit report. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM has two members in the state Assembly. The party members, however, can contest elections independently. The parties which lost their registration also includes RPI-Khobragade faction, State Election Commissioner J S Saharia said. The SEC had earlier issued notices to the party asking it to submit the reports failing which its registration will be cancelled.
