The research suggests the amount of owner-occupier housing wealth among the over 65s has more than doubled in the last decade, rising over £1trillion in the period. It is the South East that has seen the biggest spike in housing wealth held by over 65s over the past 10 years. People in this age category hold about £679billion worth of housing equity in the private rental market, it added.
