Eye check-ups conducted in Ahmedabad Municipal Schools (AMC) under the School Health Programme from December 2017 to March 2018 revealed that over 21,000 primary section students have weak eyesight while around 1,119 kids under Aanganwadi were affected by poor eyesight. In one of the cases, a mere two and half-year-old Mahek (mame changed) was detected with an even severe eyesight condition — congenital cataract. Although Mahek has vision problem since childhood, here parents weren't aware enough to get her treated for the same. "We knew of her vision problem since she was born. STATISTICSAs many as 21,379 kids studying in primary section of AMC have been prescribed to wear spectacles, while in Anganwadi 1,119 kids have been prescribed the same.
