BAREILLY: A huge amount of defence land, totalling more than 2,466 acres, has been missing from revenue department records. Those lands, which are not the part of any cantonment but still registered as Army encampment in defence records, are yet to be mutated in revenue records. "The land is under our management but as the mutation of the land is pending in revenue records, encroachers and land mafia are trying to grab it. You are requested to mutate this land in revenue records immediate to avoid any possibility of encroachment," Singh wrote to the DM.Gargi Malik, spokesperson, defence (centre command, Lucknow), told TOI, "In several districts, we have defence land which are yet to be mutated in the administration's revenue records. Similarly in other districts, the respective DEOs under whose jurisdiction the defence land comes, have been sending similar letters to local administrations."
