More than 100 military and police personnel have moved into position to contain fresh violence in the Chereponi District of the North East region, following clashes between Konkonba and Chokosi ethnic groups. One person has so far been confirmed dead after a shooting incident at a wedding ceremony Nawiek, a family community Friday. “As I speak I have 75 military men on the ground [with] about 40 police officers, to maintain law and order,” he added. The two ethnic groups in the Chereponi district of the Northern Region have engaged in violence since the New Year.
