Construction workers uncovered a gruesome scene while servicing a road in Poland – a large graveyard containing the remains of 115 individuals, some of which had coins in their mouths. The burial ground dates back to late 16th century and at least 70 percent of the skeletons belonged to children. The discovery lines up with both written accounts and legends of a cemetery dating back to the late 16th century. However, this was not a mass grave where bodies were tossed into a pit, these skeletons were carefully buried. The coins were the only items found among the skeletons, which makes researchers suggest that the burial site was used by poor individuals in the area.
