Over 10,000 ‘polluting’ units in city face closure


more-inOver 10,000 industries and other commercial units across the Capital could be forced to shut shop if they don’t get the permission to operate from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) in the next 30 days. As per the DPCC, the units have been given 30 days from Monday to get the necessary permissions, failing which they would face closure. Everything from textile units to cosmetics companies to government agencies, including the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), were among the units affected by the DPCC’s notice, which follows an order by the Supreme Court. A senior Delhi Environment and Forest Department official said that strict action would be taken against those units that fail to comply with the notice. Among the industrial units affected, 586 are located in the Central Delhi district, 24 in east Delhi, 1,037 in New Delhi, 3,544 in north Delhi, 154 in north-east Delhi, 1,480 in north-west Delhi, 973 in Shahdara, 30 in south Delhi, 1,121 in south-east Delhi, 15 in south-west Delhi and 1,700 in west Delhi.
