We had moved from Toronto to Washington, D.C. so my husband could work as The Star’s Washington Bureau Chief. For all the mocking Canadians do about American ignorance, I’m sure some of these people couldn’t point to D.C. on a map. With no national border to enforce travel restrictions in and out of the D.C.-area, COVID-19 cases remained steady here throughout the summer. There was definitely a palpable sense of smugness among Canadians as the summer drew to a close and COVID-19 cases remained low. COVID-19 cases were just so low in Ontario in September.
