Rather, free trade refers to the global efforts to reduce or, better still, remove the artificially imposed tariffs (import taxes) and non-tariff barriers (such as unreasonable inspection requirements) on trade. For a long while, this was the clarion call for the world free-trade promotion effort. For those maritime Southeast Asian nations which have depended on free trade to thrive over the past decade, a trade war is certainly a most undesired development. Our business must go on, with whoever is willing to do business with us.
