On the campaign trail, President Trump remarked that he would “pick up the phone and fix it myself” if he ever received a complaint regarding an issue with the Veterans’ Affairs health care system. Veterans continue to struggle with limited access, poor service, bureaucratic operational systems and processes. In 2014, Congress attempted to improve veteran care through a provision in the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act (VACAA), which directed the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to begin a temporary program allowing for greater choice. Our veterans deserve the best health care system available that delivers proper patient care with prompt access to care and short wait times. We cannot continue to have a system that functions poorly and does not deliver the services our veterans need.
