McKenna also said the federal government will stick to the existing targets for reducing carbon emissions, set by the previous Conservative government. The Conservatives said they would reduce carbon emissions 17 per cent from 2005 levels by 2020 and 30 per cent by 2030. It only comes into legal force after 55 countries representing 55 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions formally ratify.
