The Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame will welcome five new inductees this year. “Again this year, the selection process was very challenging”, Dave Best, chair of the Ottawa Sport Hall of Fame said in a statement. He was also a backer of the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League and served as co-chair of the 2017 Grey Cup organizing committee. Inducted into the media wing of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in November, Avery, a former Rough Riders receiver, was a winner of the 1976 Grey Cup champions. He also won a Vanier Cup national university football title with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees in 1975 and is now a radio analyst for broadcasts of RedBlacks games.
