Ottawa Sooners heading to world championship, hoping to raise funds

Getting an opportunity to play in the World Youth Football Championship is a huge deal, especially when you consider what the Ottawa Sooners had to do to get there. Then the Sooners went into Conshohocken, Pa., and won the North Atlantic Regional last weekend with a 32-6 victory over the Ridge Red Devils in the championship game. Now, the Sooners will play in the worlds Dec. 11-15 in Canton, Ohio, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “With the success of our bantam OPFL team winning the championship over the summer, to me this seemed like a natural fit,” Sooners coach Warren Steeves said. To be honest, I didn’t think we’d make the world championship, but I thought we had a group of kids who could make the adaptation to the 11-man game.
