SATURDAY PUZZLE — This grid was crunchy like a mouthful of delicious nuts and bolts, am I right? Yet, as is so often the case with Erik Agard and his collaborating cohorts, once I sweatily ascended the mountain and looked down at the path behind me, it looked less steep than it felt, less injurious than my (and my paper puzzle’s) dishevelment would indicate. But since we’ve been getting puzzles from Mr. Agard (alone and in collaboration) at a regular clip, we’ve come to expect a heavy dose of unique and sardonic humor. I would also like to mention that Kevin Der, who returns to us after about a year’s absence, is no slouch at weekend construction. You may remember this wild Sunday grid; there are several more in the archives and hopefully more to come.
