University of Otago law professor Jacinta Ruru, who has won the country's supreme award for tertiary teaching excellence. University of Otago law professor Jacinta Ruru has won the Prime Minister's supreme award for tertiary teaching, the fifth consecutive year that Otago academics have won the top national award. Being named as one of the country's top tertiary teachers was ''incredibly special'' and a ''real honour'', Prof Ruru said. Prof Ruru was New Zealand's first professor of law of Maori descent and the only Maori law faculty member at Otago since 1999, award organiser the National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence said. The university has won seven supreme teaching awards in the past 14 years, far more than any other New Zealand university.
