Oscar-nominated Argentine film gets 40th-anniversary tribute event

Maria Luisa Bemberg’s period melodrama Camila made history in 1984, selling 2.5 million tickets and earning an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film. Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this landmark work of Argentine cinema, the Cultural Ministry of Buenos Aires will hold a special event featuring the original cast and a screening at the Lugones Film Theater of the San Martin Theater Complex in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. The tribute event will kick off at 6.30 p.m. at the Alfredo Alcón Hall of the San Martín Theater (Av. Corrientes 1530) with a public conversation between the movie’s lead actors about Camila’s social impact and its place in Argentine film history. Items from the original production, which are part of the Buenos Aires Film Museum’s collection, will also be on display.
