Oscar Pistorius’s ‘shockingly lenient’ murder sentence more than doubled

Paralympian athlete Oscar Pistorius looks on during the hearing in his murder trail at the High Court in Pretoria on July 6, 2016. On Friday, South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal called that sentence “shockingly lenient,” and more than doubled it after unanimously upholding an appeal by prosecutors, the Associated Press reported. South Africa's Supreme Court more than doubled Paralympian Oscar Pistorius's jail time for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. It remains to be seen if Friday’s decision by South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal will mean the end of Pistorius’s legal saga. According to the AP, his lawyers can still challenge the new, lengthened sentence with South Africa’s Constitutional Court, the country’s highest court.
