This comes after the BSA found comments made by Newstalk ZB host Heather du Plessis-Allan, referring to Pacific Islands as leeches, breached the standards. The ruling requires NZME to pay $3,000 to the Crown, and broadcast a statement during her Wellington Mornings with Heather du Plessis-Allan show. Du Plessis-Allan told listeners back in September, when speaking about the Pacific Islands forum in Nauru, "I mean, it's the Pacific Islands. The authority believed du Plessis-Allan was disingenuous in subsequently arguing that she had been referring to the Pacific Islands as leeches, rather than the people themselves.
