Kerrygold owner Ornua has insisted that no butter that was allegedly unsuitable for human consumption following an incident at a cold storage firm in Dublin ever found its way into the food chain. However, it’s believed that it was sold to an Ornua butter trading company in the UK. Ornua is suing VF Cold Stores and other defendants on behalf of the co-op’s insurance firm for almost €7.9m. VF Cold Stores has mounted defences to the claims from both Ornua and Kepak. In August last year, Ornua launched a tender process for butter that had been involved in the VF Cold Stores incident the year before.
