Orla Chennaoui: Where is the anger over women being sidelined?

If sport matters at all, then women’s sport has to. As a recent Women In Sport report points out, ‘seeing great women’s sport makes it normal for women and girls to be active, to be skilful, gritty and determined’. Anyone would think we didn’t have decades of development concurrent with bans in women’s sport. Women’s football, after thriving in World War One with crowds of more than 50,000 in 1920, was banned for 50 years. By the time the FA took responsibility for women’s football in 1993, the average Premier League salary was around £100,000.
